🅾️Electoral Ethics and Legal Provisions Against Communal Campaigning

⚜️Section 123(3) & 123(3A) of RP Act, 1951: These sections codify the prohibition against appealing to voters on the grounds of religion, race, caste, community, or language, and label such acts as corrupt electoral practices. They also penalize the promotion of enmity or hatred on these grounds during elections

⚜️Model Code of Conduct (MCC): Although not legally binding, the MCC sets forth norms for political conduct, deterring parties and candidates from exploiting caste, religious, or linguistic differences(Abhiram Singh vs. C.D. Commachen (2017)- includes any religious appeals in the context of elections, even those related to the religion of the voters.

Some of you have been asking my opinion on this.

Energy without direction can be self destructive🙂

Those who have an entrepreneurial spirit will anyway pursue it. I personally don’t think upsc is ever treated as a backup option by entrepreneurs 🙂

Cracking this exam may not be fulfilling for folks from elite colleges if they compare their salaries with the peers . Even all the people from these colleges do not land in these extremely high paying jobs or go on to become entrepreneurs. So it’s an over simplified statement. If you have the grit to be entrepreneurs, you will anyway do it- you won’t wait for any suggestions- rest of the folks do not get distracted by these statements. Let us take them seriously only when alternative career pathways are clear for our personal situations. Keep calm and move on 🙂

P.s : I expect some reforms in upsc( much needed ones) after this general election- I take this statement as a feeler on age limit- but I respectfully disagree with mr. sanyal’s views on bureaucracy

🅾️Context: The Israel-Palestine Conflict

⚡️Mains question : Role of the UN: Are UN mechanisms effective in resolving complex conflicts with powerful players involved? What alternative approaches could be explored?

⚠️ISSUES

1. International Law vs. Realpolitik- UN Security Council resolutions are legally binding on member states (including Israel and Palestine). However, the Council has limited power to enforce these resolutions. Powerful nations within the Council (like the US) can block or weaken action, undermining international law.

2. The Limitations of the Resolution: The resolution focuses on humanitarian aid, not core issues fueling the conflict. Israel may use loopholes in the wording to continue restricting aid access.
